Currently BeachWise is run solely by me, Eva Barnhart.
I started Beachwise after hearing the tragic story of a mom who drowned in Costa Rica while trying to save her daughter. The daughter was saved, but the mother gave her life. As a surfer who has explored the waters of Central America, I was deeply saddened by this story and wanted to help. I started sharing ocean understanding and safety tips(without the fear mongering) on social media.
I started to discover that this problem, where tourists drown in unfamiliar ocean waters was quite common. I also discovered that most people do not forecast for their beach days, nor know how. So, Beachwise was born.
